Leave Your Stress Behind for Effortless Indulgence
Let’s get one thing straight: you don’t have to be a millionaire to travel like you mean it. Whether you’re dreaming of a misty mountain retreat, a sandy beach escape, or a city break with major main-character energy. There is a way to do it all on a budget, without giving up the good stuff.
At Save Your Nichols, we believe travel should be rich in experience, not expenses. So if your bank account is whispering “no,” but your soul is screaming “go,” here’s how to plan smarter, spend less, and still come back with a camera roll full of memories and zero regret.

6 Savvy Tips for Traveling Like a Pro (on a Not-So-Pro Budget)
1. Choose Destinations That Stretch Your Dollar
Think of places where your money works harder:
Portugal instead of France
Mexico’s Yucatán instead of Cancun resorts
Slovenia instead of Switzerland
Savannah, GA instead of NYC
And don’t sleep on national parks and smaller towns—they often have better food, fewer fees, and way more charm.
2. Travel in the “Shoulder” Seasons
Peak season is great… for crowds and price gouging. Traveling in late spring or early fall. Benefits include better weather, cheaper flights, and more local flavor.
Bonus: You won’t sweat through your sightseeing.
3. Go Local, Not Luxurious
Luxury is a vibe, not a hotel brand. Skip the chain resorts and opt for:
Boutique guesthouses
Farm stays or eco-lodges
Family-run B&Bs
These places are not only more affordable, but they’re also more memorable.
4. Bundle Your Trip the Smart Way
Booking flights, hotels, and tours separately can work; but it can also cost more if you don’t know where to look.
We’ll help you build custom packages that save you time and money (plus perks like free breakfasts or room upgrades when available).
5. Plan One Big Experience Per Day
Instead of overloading your itinerary (and your wallet), focus on one unforgettable activity per day:
A cooking class with locals
A zipline adventure
A boat ride through bioluminescent bays
Then leave space to explore, nap, or follow your curiosity.
6. Use a Travel Advisor (That’s Me )
I know where to find the deals, how to dodge tourist traps, and how to stretch your budget without sacrificing comfort. Think of me as your calm-in-the-chaos guide, acting as your Nichols-saving ninja.
🧳 What Budget-Savvy Doesn’t Mean:
Let’s bust the myth:
Budget travel doesn’t mean hostels and instant noodles (unless you want that). It means:
Thoughtful choices
Intentional spending
A trip that feels amazing, not exhausting
You can still have spa days, sunset dinners, and stylish luggage; just without the "I might need to remortgage my house" feeling.
Real Travel, Real You, Real Smart

Planning a large family reunion can feel like a big undertaking, especially when you have little ones, energetic teens, and wise elders all in the mix. But fear not! With the right destination and a little strategic planning, you can create a relaxing, connection-filled summer experience that everyone will cherish. As your go-to brainstorming partner, I've cooked up four incredible itinerary concepts perfect for a mid-range budget and a diverse group of 40 people, from 6 months to 89 years young!
Imagine a stress-free escape where every meal, every drink, and countless activities are already handled. All-inclusive resorts in destinations like the Dominican Republic, Mexico, or Jamaica are champions of relaxation and built-in fun, making them ideal for multi-generational groups.
Option 1: Caribbean All-Inclusive Resort – Effortless Island Bliss
Sample Itinerary Snapshot:
Day 1: Arrival & Unwind: Families arrive at their leisure, settling into their rooms before a casual welcome reception. A relaxed buffet dinner allows everyone to mingle, followed by live resort entertainment.
Day 2: Beach Bliss & Water Fun: Dive into the day with optional group yoga or a leisurely beach stroll. Spend the afternoon enjoying resort pools, engaging in family beach games, or trying out included water sports like kayaking. Kids' clubs keep the younger ones entertained!
Day 3: Adventure & Exploration (Optional): This day offers a choice: continue enjoying resort amenities or embark on an optional family excursion like a catamaran snorkeling trip or a cultural tour (a great way to see more of the destination!). Evenings bring themed dinners and lighthearted fun like a family talent show.
Day 4: Connection & Celebration: Capture lasting memories with a family photo session. Enjoy a group cooking class or cocktail-making demo before some free time for individual relaxation. The trip culminates in a special Farewell Gala Dinner, complete with speeches and a slideshow of newfound memories.
Day 5: Departure: A leisurely breakfast and final moments of resort enjoyment before individual departures.
Why it's great: No constant worrying about bills, endless activities for all ages, and beautiful scenery provide the perfect backdrop for connection.
Option 2: Grand Lake House/Lodge Rental – A Home Away From Home in Nature
For families seeking a more intimate, cozy, and nature-immersing experience, renting a sprawling lodge or a cluster of large cabins around a beautiful lake is an unbeatable choice. Think locations like the Adirondacks, Smoky Mountains, or Lake Tahoe. It encourages organic gathering and provides ample space for everyone to relax and explore.
Sample Itinerary Snapshot:
Day 1: Arrival & Settle In: Families arrive and settle into their private lodge or cabins. A casual welcome reception leads into a potluck-style dinner or catered BBQ, followed by a classic bonfire with s'mores and storytelling.
Day 2: Lake Life & Outdoor Fun: After a leisurely breakfast, dive into lake activities like swimming, fishing, kayaking, or pontoon boat rides. Gentle hiking trails offer opportunities for all ages to explore. Evenings are perfect for indoor game nights or an outdoor movie under the stars.
Day 3: Local Charm & Relaxation: Explore a charming nearby town, Browse local shops or enjoying an ice cream. The afternoon is dedicated to free time back at the lodge for naps, reading, or lawn games. Dinner might be a fun "cook-off" challenge or a catered meal, rounded off by a group campfire sing-along.
Day 4: Shared Memories & Farewell Feast: Organize a family scavenger hunt or a friendly relay race. Enjoy a final swim or revisit favorite lake spots before helping to pack up. A special farewell dinner, perhaps with a professional chef on-site, allows for sharing favorite memories.
Day 5: Departure: A final breakfast together, heartfelt farewells, and departures at leisure.
Why it's great: It fosters deep connection through shared experiences, provides a relaxed natural setting, and offers flexibility for personalized activities.
Option 3: Cruise Ship Adventures – Floating Paradises of Fun & Discovery!
A cruise combines the best of relaxation with the excitement of visiting multiple destinations – all without the hassle of constant packing and unpacking! This makes it a fantastic option for diverse family groups. Depending on your preference for warm sun or breathtaking glaciers, here are two incredible cruise ideas:
A. Sunny Caribbean Cruise
Day 1: Embarkation & Explore: Board your floating resort and unpack once! Spend the afternoon exploring the ship's incredible amenities: pools, mini-golf, sports courts, and dedicated kids' and teen clubs. Enjoy your first dinner in the main dining room and a welcome show.
Day 2: Fun at Sea: A full day to indulge in the ship's offerings! From waterslides and arcades to the spa and fitness center, there's endless entertainment. Kids and teens have their own engaging programs. Evenings bring formal dining options (optional) and Broadway-style shows.
Day 3: Island Exploration (Port Day 1): Arrive at a vibrant Caribbean island! Choose from exciting shore excursions like beach days, snorkeling adventures, historical tours, or simply exploring the port town. Return to the ship for dinner and more entertainment.
Day 4: Island Exploration (Port Day 2) & Farewell: Wake up to a new, beautiful island! More opportunities for exploration or relaxation. Enjoy a final farewell dinner with your family group in the main dining room, celebrating the trip's highlights with a final show or dance party.
Day 5: Disembarkation: A final breakfast on board before disembarking at the home port.
Why it's great: A fantastic balance of relaxation and built-in activities, diverse dining, entertainment, and the thrill of visiting new places without the logistical complexities.
B. Majestic Alaska Cruise
Day 1: Embarkation & Scenic Cruising: Board your ship in a port like Seattle or Vancouver. Settle into your cabins as the ship sets sail through breathtaking coastal landscapes. Enjoy your first onboard dinner and explore the ship's amenities, perhaps spotting wildlife from the deck!
Day 2: Glacier Bay National Park (or similar): This will be a highlight! Spend the day cruising through stunning fjords, witnessing towering tidewater glaciers calving into the sea. Naturalists on board provide commentary, making it an incredible learning experience for all ages. Enjoy the panoramic views from various decks.
Day 3: Frontier Town Exploration (e.g., Juneau): Arrive at a charming Alaskan port. Excursions can include whale watching, Mendenhall Glacier visits, gold panning, or exploring the town's unique shops and history. The older teens might enjoy hiking, while younger kids could love dog sledding experiences.
Day 4: Wilderness & Wildlife (e.g., Skagway or Ketchikan): Another port, another adventure! Options could be riding a historic railway through mountains, taking a scenic floatplane tour, or visiting a totem pole park. Spot eagles, bears, and other incredible wildlife. Evenings bring themed dining and ship shows.
Day 5: Return & Reflect: Enjoy a final breakfast on board, sharing stories of the incredible sights and experiences. Disembark, filled with memories of Alaska's majestic beauty.
Why it's great: A truly unique adventure with unparalleled natural beauty, educational opportunities, and incredible wildlife viewing that will captivate all ages. It offers a cooler climate for summer travel, a welcome change for some!
Option 4: European River Cruise – Charming Culture & Effortless Exploration
For a sophisticated yet relaxing reunion that blends cultural immersion with stunning scenery, a European River Cruise is an absolute gem. Imagine gliding past medieval castles, charming villages, and vibrant cities along rivers like the Rhine, Danube, or Seine. It’s an ideal way for all ages to experience multiple destinations with ease.
Sample Itinerary Snapshot:
Day 1: Arrival & Embarkation: Arrive at your embarkation city (e.g., Amsterdam, Budapest, Paris). Board your elegant river cruise ship, settle into your cabins, and enjoy a welcome reception and dinner as you begin to glide along the river.
Day 2: City Exploration & History: Wake up in a new fascinating city! Enjoy a guided walking tour (with options for different paces/lengths) exploring historical sites, local markets, and charming streets. Return to the ship for lunch and scenic cruising.
Day 3: Castles, Villages & Local Flavors: Cruise through picturesque landscapes, perhaps past a series of stunning castles. Dock in a quaint village for an excursion like a wine tasting, a visit to a local artisan, or simply a stroll. Onboard activities like cooking demonstrations or lectures about the region.
Day 4: Cultural Immersion & Flexible Fun: Explore another vibrant city or charming town. Options might include a bike tour, a visit to a famous museum, or simply free time for shopping and enjoying a local cafe. Many river cruise lines offer family-friendly excursions or activities. Evening entertainment on board.
Day 5: Scenic Cruising & Farewell: Enjoy a relaxing morning of cruising, perhaps with an on-deck barbecue or a final activity. Take in the last views of the beautiful European countryside. A special farewell dinner on board, reflecting on the incredible journey and shared memories.
Day 6: Disembarkation: Enjoy a final breakfast on board before disembarking in your destination city.
Why it's great: Unpack once and wake up to new scenery daily! Offers cultural enrichment, effortless travel between destinations, and a relaxed pace suitable for all ages, with built-in excursions and entertainment.

Graduating from College, Growing My Travel Business, and Launching a New Etsy Shop
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to share an important life update with you all.
Next week, I will officially graduate from college with my Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Behavior, twenty-seven years after I began this journey! Balancing school, family, and building my business has been a long road, and I’m incredibly proud (and relieved) to finally be here.
The blog has been a bit quiet lately as I’ve focused on completing final projects and preparing for graduation. Thank you for your patience; it means the world to me. I promise that once the cap and gown are put away, I will return to sharing travel tips, destination guides, and all the helpful advice you’ve come to expect.
Graduating feels like a full-circle moment. I initially put my education on hold to raise my children. I still homeschool my boys, who are now teenagers, and witnessing their classes has reignited my passion for knowledge. My family’s unwavering support has been a guiding light throughout this adventure.
I have always believed in the power of learning and growth, and now I get to bring that into my work as a travel agent. My mission is about more than just planning trips; it’s about helping you find peace, excitement, and joy through travel, while minimizing stress. With graduation on the horizon, I’m eager to focus even more on growing Save Your Nichols and creating meaningful travel experiences for you.
In even more exciting news, I’ve launched a brand new Etsy shop alongside Save Your Nichols, called Effortless Indulgence. It features printable tools, calming affirmations, and beautiful designs to help you cultivate peace and joy in your everyday life, whether you’re traveling or at home. Please check it out if you’re looking for something uplifting or a thoughtful gift.
Thank you for sticking with me through this busy season. I can’t wait to get back to regular blogging, sharing new resources, and building both my travel business and my Etsy shop to better serve you.
Big adventures and exciting opportunities are on the horizon!
Wishing you a fantastic day!

Making Memories, Not Mayhem: Your Guide to Traveling with Kids
The thought of traveling with kids can conjure images of serene family bonding... quickly followed by visions of airport meltdowns, car seat chaos, and picky eating in unfamiliar places. Let's be real: traveling with little ones is different. But different doesn't mean impossible, and it certainly doesn't mean it's not worthwhile!
With a little planning, patience, and the right mindset, family travel can be an incredible way to create lasting memories and broaden horizons (yours and theirs!). Forget perfection; aim for connection and adventure. Here are some tried-and-true tips to help make your next family trip smoother and more enjoyable:
1. Plan Smart, Not Hard
Involve the Kids (Age Appropriately): Show older kids maps, pictures, or videos of the destination. Let them pick an activity or two. Feeling involved gives them ownership and excitement.
Kid-Friendly Destinations & Stays: Look for places with parks, pools, kid-friendly attractions, or hotels/rentals with amenities like kitchens or separate sleeping areas. An all-inclusive resort might be easier than navigating multiple restaurants daily with toddlers.
Pace Yourselves: Don't try to cram too much in. Build downtime into your itinerary every day. Kids (and adults!) need time to rest, play freely, and just be. One major activity per day might be plenty.
Book Wisely: If flying, aim for direct flights or routes with manageable layovers. Consider flight times that work with (or least disrupt) nap/sleep schedules. If driving, plan for frequent stops.
2. Pack Like a Pro (Almost!)
Carry-On Essentials: This is your survival kit! Include:
A change of clothes for everyone (spills happen!).
Essential medications (plus pain/fever reducer).
Wipes, wipes, and more wipes.
Snacks and drinks (more on this below).
Diapers/pull-ups if needed.
Small, engaging activities/toys.
Comfort items (lovie, small blanket).
Snack Attack Ready: Pack more snacks than you think you need. Bring familiar favorites and some spill-proof containers. Don't rely solely on finding suitable options on the go. Hydration is key. Bring refillable water bottles.
Entertainment Arsenal: Load tablets with new apps, games, or movies (don't forget kid-sized headphones!). Bring small, mess-free activities: coloring books, stickers, travel-sized games, card games, or wrap a few new small toys for novelty.
Checklists are Your Friend: Avoid last-minute panic by making packing lists for each family member well in advance.
3. Conquer the Journey
Airport Navigation: Allow plenty of extra time. Use family security lines if available. Explain the process to kids beforehand. Consider gate-checking strollers/car seats for convenience.
Car Trip Strategies: Plan stops around parks or playgrounds, not just gas stations. Audiobooks, podcasts, and family playlists can be lifesavers. Pack a small potty for emergencies if potty training. Use window shades.
Embrace the Screens (Strategically): While you might limit screen time at home, travel days are often an exception. Don't feel guilty using screens to buy yourself some peace during transit.
Manage Expectations: Delays happen. Kids get restless. Take deep breaths and try to roll with it.
4. Thrive at the Destination
Maintain Some Routine: While you're on vacation time, sticking loosely to regular nap or bedtimes can prevent overtired meltdowns. A familiar bedtime story or routine can help kids settle in a new place.
Safety First: Talk about staying close in crowded places. Consider ID bracelets or putting your contact info in their pocket. Know local emergency numbers. Pack a basic first-aid kit.
Food Flexibility: Be prepared for picky eating. Try local foods, but have backup options or familiar snacks available. Sometimes, a simple picnic from a local market is easier than a restaurant meal.
Seek Out Kid Fun: Find local playgrounds, parks, or beaches. These allow kids to burn off energy and feel comfortable in a new environment.
5. The Most Important Tip: Adjust Your Mindset
Flexibility is Key: Things will go off script. The restaurant you planned might be closed; the museum might be boring for them, it might rain. Be ready to pivot and find a Plan B (or C!).
Lower Expectations: This isn't the same kind of trip you took pre-kids. You might move slower, see less, and focus more on basic needs. That's okay!
Focus on the Experience: See the world through their eyes. The simple joy they find in a new park, a funny-looking bird, or splashing in the hotel pool is the magic.
Stay Positive (or Fake It!): Kids pick up on your stress. Try maintaining a calm and positive attitude, even when things get challenging. Your energy sets the tone.
Traveling with kids pushes you out of your comfort zone, but the rewards- shared experiences, new perspectives, and incredible memories – are well worth the effort. So pack your bags (and your patience), and get ready for an adventure!

Less is often more when traveling. Invest in versatile clothing, carry-on-friendly toiletries, and technology that can multitask. Your agent can provide checklists and tips tailored to your specific itinerary, helping you avoid baggage fees and simplifying your travel experience.
6. Plan for Downtime
Don’t cram every minute of your trip with activities. Schedule some downtime to explore spontaneously or simply relax. As experts in crafting itineraries, travel agents balance sightseeing with leisure, ensuring you return home refreshed, not exhausted.
7. Stay Connected, But Disconnect Too
International roaming can be costly. Travel agents can suggest the best local SIM cards or international plans to keep you connected affordably. Remember, vacations are also for disconnecting and recharging, so find the right balance.
Final Thoughts
A well-planned trip, with the help of a travel agent’s expertise, is a journey you can embark on with confidence. You can leave your stress behind, knowing that every detail has been thoughtfully tailored just for you.

Because Parents Need a Break: Let a Travel Advisor Handle the Planning
The Chaos of Parenting & Travel Planning
Parenting is a beautiful mess—equal parts love, exhaustion, and the occasional attempt to drink cold coffee before noon. Whether you're juggling toddler tantrums or negotiating screen time with a teenager, life is already overwhelming. Now throw vacation planning into the mix, and suddenly, that dream getaway feels like another never-ending to-do list.
Between choosing a destination, booking flights, finding family-friendly hotels, and making sure no one has a meltdown at 30,000 feet, planning a trip can feel more stressful than your daily routine. And let’s be honest—you don’t want a vacation that just swaps one type of chaos for another.
The good news? You don’t have to do it alone.

Why Planning Family Travel Feels Like an Olympic Event
1. Too Many Decisions, Not Enough Time
Flights, hotels, car rentals, kid-friendly restaurants, nap schedules, emergency plans—the list goes on. And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, someone’s snack preference changes overnight.
2. Keeping Everyone Happy = Mission Impossible
Your toddler wants playgrounds. Your teen wants WiFi. You just want five minutes of peace. Finding a destination that works for everyone feels like solving a riddle from an escape room—without any clues.
3. The “Surprises” No One Wants
Flight delays? Lost luggage? Your kid suddenly refusing to eat anything that isn’t shaped like a dinosaur? No itinerary is meltdown-proof, and the unexpected always finds a way to sneak in.
Enter the Travel Advisor: Your Secret Weapon for a Stress-Free Trip
If the thought of planning a family vacation makes your head spin, it’s time to call in an expert. A travel advisor doesn’t just book flights—they take the entire load off your plate so you can actually enjoy your vacation.
What a Travel Advisor Does (Spoiler: It’s a Lot!)
✅ Custom Itineraries – Every family is different. Your trip should be, too.
✅ Kid-Friendly Recommendations – Resorts, activities, and restaurants that are actually family-friendly (not just claiming to be).
✅ Logistics & Backup Plans – Transportation, stroller rentals, emergency contacts—handled.
✅ Time-Saving Hacks – No more late-night Google rabbit holes.
✅ 24/7 Support – If something goes wrong, they fix it. Fast.
Travel Advisors = VIP Perks You Didn’t Know Existed
Did you know that working with a travel advisor can get you upgrades and special perks you wouldn’t get on your own? Think:
✨ Free hotel upgrades (because a suite > a cramped room with two beds).
✨ Early check-in & late check-out (so you’re not stuck waiting in a lobby with tired kids).
✨ Exclusive discounts (because saving money is always a win).
✨ Special experiences (private tours, fast passes, stress-free dining reservations).
In short? They handle the headaches—you just show up and make memories.
Parents, You Deserve a Vacation—Without the Stress
Let’s be real: You already do enough. Planning a vacation shouldn’t feel like another overwhelming job.
With a travel advisor, every little detail—flights, accommodations, activities—is taken care of, so you can actually enjoy the trip instead of managing it. No stress, no endless decisions, just quality time with your family.
So go ahead—hand off the planning. The only decision you should have to make is whether to hit the beach or the pool first.
Ready to ditch the stress and book your dream trip? Find a travel advisor today and start packing for a real vacation!
